«Stop Green Washing»

«As 2025 comes to a close, our stories this year have captured both the progress made on our shared global agenda and the challenges that continue to test our collective resolve.
This week, our annual year-ender 20 brands called out for greenwashing highlights the rise of "greenrinsing" – where companies set ambitious climate targets to attract investment, only to weaken, delay or quietly abandon them later.
While efforts to improve transparency and accountability gained momentum in several jurisdictions, the story also traces how carbon capture technologies and “clean” gas narratives have been used to justify continued fossil fuel expansion, underscoring the gap between climate pledges and real-world outcomes.
Meanwhile, East Asia this week provided stories of progress. In Japan, cities are expanding food waste vending machines that sell unsold bakery items at a discount – a small but creative way to cut emissions and waste. In South Korea, authorities announced plans to ban labels on bottled water from 2026, a significant policy move aimed at reducing plastic waste at scale.
We also looked at a recent report that revealed Singapore continued to reinforce its role as Southeast Asia’s green start-up hub, even as infrastructure and financing gaps persist. The region pushed ahead of the US and Europe in electric vehicle adoption, while shifting energy investments highlighted the evolving power landscape.
Elsewhere, Taiwan delayed a pioneering ocean thermal energy project over deep-sea environmental concerns, and the Philippines secured major blue-economy financing to support marine protection.
This marks our last Insights newsletter of 2025, and we want to thank you for being our readers and supporting our work throughout the year. We will continue to publish interesting year-enders for the rest of the month, and we'll be back in January to continue our mission of providing you with the latest news and analyses in sustainable development.
From our team to yours, we wish you a joyful festive season and a Happy New Year!».

«No princípio, uma questão: quão pesada é uma cidade? Ao longo de três anos, muitas outras inquietações somaram-se à pergunta que deu o título à 7.ª Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa, como: Quem mede? Como é que a vida está a mudar o planeta? As cidades são sedimentos? A quem pertence a informação? Qual é o peso de uma fronteira? Como é que somos uma força geológica? Quem transforma as cidades?»

«No princípio, uma questão: quão pesada é uma cidade?

Ao longo de três anos, muitas outras inquietações somaram-se à pergunta que deu o título à 7.ª Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa, como: Quem mede? Como é que a vida está a mudar o planeta? As cidades são sedimentos? A quem pertence a informação? Qual é o peso de uma fronteira? Como é que somos uma força geológica? Quem transforma as cidades?

Launch of the GCC Stocktake Report 2025

25 Nov 2025

2025 marks a pivotal moment for the visual arts sector. We are five years into the decisive decade - the period in which urgent climate action is essential - and at the midpoint of GCC’s ten-year strategy. To mark this milestone, we are proud to launch the GCC Stocktake Report 2025, a comprehensive assessment of the sector’s progress on climate action and the road ahead to 2030.

The Stocktake brings together six years of data and insights, drawn from the GCC Carbon Calculator, qualitative research, and engagement with organisations across the sector. It provides the clearest picture yet of where we stand, the systemic and behavioural shifts required, and the opportunities to accelerate meaningful change.

What you’ll find inside

  • Headline insights on sector-wide emissions, reduction pathways, and the limits of carbon data alone
  • Case studies of organisations leading the way in embedding climate action into core operations
  • Analysis of the trends and signals that show the sector approaching a tipping point, where isolated efforts begin to align into collective transformation
  • An honest assessment of the barriers slowing progress, from structural constraints to capacity gaps
  • Forward-looking guidance on the systemic and behavioural shifts required to meet 2030 targets
  • Targeted recommendations to help organisations act with greater speed, confidence, and impact

This mid-decade checkpoint is sobering but galvanising. The world is increasingly likely to overshoot the 1.5°C limit set by the Paris Agreement, underscoring the urgency of accelerating sector-wide action. Yet the Stocktake also demonstrates that the visual arts community is already embedding environmental responsibility into culture, strategy, and decision-making.

We invite everyone in the sector - organisations, artists, funders, and policymakers - to explore the report, reflect on the findings, and act together to seize this tipping point. The Stocktake is not just a record of progress; it’s a call to action to transform insight into collective impact.

a propósito

de lá:

«Amazon Assessment Report 2025 _ CONNECTIVITY OF THE AMAZON FOR A LIVING PLANET»

Mais

«The Amazon is under threat from deforestation, environmental degradation, and climate change, with changes happening at unprecedented rates. The conservation of the Amazon requires an integrated, transdisciplinary approach that considers the region’s deep interconnections—across geological systems, climate systems, ecosystems, peoples, and governance systems—to shape an effective, inclusive path forward through sustainable development. This assessment report aims to provide science-based, actionable solutions that can conserve and restore healthy Amazonian environments, societies, and economies. We focus on maintaining and restoring the region’s ecological and sociocultural connectivity, which is defined as the interconnectedness within and between ecological and social systems and depends on the flow and movement of species, resources, information, and people. Eight dimensions of ecological and sociocultural connectivity are highlighted, along with some of the current solutions and innovative interventions being created, developed, and implemented by diverse actors across various spatial and temporal scales. We hope to inspire our readers to look for long-term solutions that are scalable, fair, just, and appropriate for our vision of a living Amazon».

Ainda

«About the Science Panel for the Amazon
The Science Panel for the Amazon is an unprecedented initiative convened under the auspices of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The SPA aims to synthesize and communicate scientific knowledge about the Amazon, interwoven with Indigenous and Local Knowledge, to accelerate solutions for sustainable and equitable development. It is composed of over 300 preeminent scientists and researchers from the eight Amazonian countries, French Guiana, and global partners. These experts come together to debate, analyze, and assemble the accumulated knowledge of the scientific community, Indigenous Peoples, and other stakeholders that live and work in the Amazon, with the aim of providing recommendations, opportunities and policy relevant options for its conservation and sustainable development».

DISCUTAMOS!

De lá: «The Integrated Reporting Framework and Integrated Thinking Principles are maintained under the auspices of the IFRS Foundation, a global not-for-profit, public interest organisation established to develop high-quality, understandable, enforceable and globally accepted accounting and sustainability disclosure standards. The Integrated Reporting Framework can be used to connect financial statements and sustainability-related financial disclosures. The IFRS Foundation’s International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) are jointly responsible for the Integrated Reporting Framework»..

Terminemos, como começámos,  com o  Lonsec:

Rematamos, questionando: no nosso País, sobre esta problemática, o que estarão a fazer a COMISSÃO DE NORMALIZAÇÃO CONTABILÍSTICA, a ORDEM DOS CONTABILISTAS CERTIFICADOS, a ORDEM DOS ECONOMISTAS, ... E, claro, Escolas de referência. Digam-nos, porque desconhecemos.

«G20 South Africa Summit: Leaders’ Declaration»

  • «Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It integrates economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection, ensuring long-term health and stability of all people and our planet. As major global actors, G20 nations play a pivotal role in driving sustainable development».

«Winner of the 2010 PROSE Award for Best Business, Finance, & Management Book!
"One Report" refers to an emerging trend in business taking place throughout the world where companies are going beyond separate reports for financial and nonfinancial (e.g., corporate social responsibility or sustainability) results and integrating both into a single integrated report. At the same time, they are also leveraging the Internet to provide more detailed results to all of their stakeholders and for improving their level of dialogue and engagement with them. Providing best practice examples from companies around the world, One Report shows how integrated reporting adds tremendous value to the company and all of its stakeholders, including shareholders, and also ultimately contributes to a sustainable society.
  • Focuses on the emerging trend of integrated reporting as a top priority for companies, investors, regulators, auditors and civil society
  • Provides compelling case studies from some of the world's leading companies doing integrated reporting
  • Addresses how companies can move toward One Report and how it can become a keystone of a sustainable strategy for both the company and society
  • Explains what others-such as analysts, shareholders, other stakeholders, auditors, regulators, legislators, and civil society-need to do to enable the rapid and broad adoption of One Report
Filled with case studies and the most current trends on integrated reporting, this book is an invaluable guidebook on the future of reporting and how this future can lead to a sustainable society».

«The Infrastructure Of Planetary Sapience
A maturing technosphere can achieve balance with the biosphere».
Começa assim:

«In the next century, human civilization will likely look back from its singular planetary awareness upon today’s nationalist revivals and Great Power rivalries as the last hurrah of a lingering past still foolishly fragmented by its tribal origins.

Even as so many nations appear to be going their own way, embroiled in historically familiar trade wars and military conflicts, the simultaneous emergence of AI-driven planetary-scale computation is disclosing the imperative of forging a common future. The material basis of this evolving consciousness is the technological exoskeleton of satellites, sensors and cloud computation, which is expanding the heretofore limited scope of human understanding of the world and repositioning our place in the natural order. The climate crisis this apparatus has unveiled is a window into the realization that we are neither above nor apart from nature, but part and parcel of one interdependent organism comprised of multiple intelligences striving for sustainable equilibrium. «(...) Homer began to explore Florida on another trip in search of warmer climes. Following a brief stint in Tampa in the mid-1880s, where he captured the state’s spiky palm trees in Thornhill Bar (1886), he sailed to Key West, paying even closer attention to the landscape. Here, Homer depicted tropical characteristics he hadn’t found in Cuba or the Bahamas: Key West’s sense of isolation and its exposure to strong winds.(...). Veja aqui.
